What happens in a recession? A lot, and mostly negative things. There are salary cut offs, a lot of jobs are lost increasing the number of unemployment, there will be a fall in investments and a lot of bankruptcy cases arise. Business would not be good during a recession.
Both the business owner and worker are affected during a recession. For a worker, you may or may not lose your jobs, this would also mean that you will lose some benefits like health benefits and more.
For a business owner, you have the biggest responsibility. It would not be easy to cut off the salaries of your workers. The more it won’t be easy once you start taking away their jobs. Your business would also experience some drawbacks due to the effect of the recession. You would have adjust everything to get along with the economy.

First, buyers and customers become more cautious. Consumers are the first to feel an economic downturn way ahead of the admission of any agency or the government. For example, a commission-based employee who is your customer may have less to take home during a recession. Thus, customers will spend less because they have less money to spend.
Second, capitalize on your strengths. For example, if you own a restaurant that serves dishes at around $10, you cannot introduce higher price rates. You can only do that when customers have more income to spend and can afford higher rates. You need to survive like everyone else in a down economy. Increasing your rates at a times of economic downfall will only put your business on the downside. Costumers would no longer go to your restaurant even if the economy is getting better.
Lastly, be a smart buyer. Economize. You can earn money in two ways: one is profit from the difference between the selling price and cost, and the other which people usually don’t realize is through paying less for a purchased item. Comparison shopping is the key. You can buy quality products at cheaper prices if you know how and where to search. This does not only apply to buyers but to business owners as well. For example you own a restaurant, it is better if you get your supplies in a much cheaper price.
In a down economy, you need to be smart and be sensitive to the situation of other people. Learn to be resourceful and spend less. Though some sacrifices should be made in order to cope up with the economy, still you need to think positively.
